New phone technologies pose major challenge for 911 service

Canada's 911 system was built for land lines, not for cellphones, Internet phones or text messaging. A caller using Vonage Canada, for example, can't dial the nearest 911 centre directly. The 911 call goes to a national Vonage operator, who then redirects the call to the appropriate 911 center.
